A chance to shine

The toasts at a Burns Dinner or Supper present the speakers with ample opportunity for humour and, let's call it "channelled wit" in the first toast after The Loyal Toast.

The Toast to the Lasses gives all men present the chance to engage the eyes of their other halves. The speaker may refer to one or more of the women present in the context of many present knowing their characterisitcs.

.

The man speaks for his brethren aware that the reply laughingly decries most of what he comes out with.

There was a time in Scotland when women were not permitted across the threshold of the Burns Dinner. The UK King was not on the agenda which meant that The Immortal Memory was the only speech. Dirge would be a better word.

Luckily, those times have changed.

The Reply from the Lasses is what everyone has been waiting for, especially the lasses.

The essential of the two speeches is good, clean fun at nobody's expense.
